I’ve been so excited to start sharing home tours and other people’s spaces that inspire me here on the blog. I knew I wanted to start with the home of Amanda Shadforth, who you may know as Oracle Fox on Instagram, for a few reasons.
First, her home has deeply inspired the plans for my own home (you’ll see instantly from these next photos), which is grounded in mixing modern, California-casual, Scandinavian and even industrial pieces that somehow all come together to make total sense. Her home’s white walls and concrete floors are the perfect blank canvas to fill with unique, curated items. And her pared back, minimalist approach give enough room for each item to be seen and appreciated.
Second, would you believe me if I told you that this home tour was first revealed on Elle Decor in 2016? That’s right, this home tour is nearly 4 years old! SUCH a testament to the design’s timeless aesthetic. The iconic Hans Wagner chairs, vintage finds, and natural materials will always feel current. That’s the dream — creating something both on-trend yet will still be equally cool in ten years time.
Lastly, her home is a reminder to look to your closet when you’re stuck in design paralysis in your home. Amanda pulls a lot from her personal style and wardrobe — her home mirrors what she wears, which for most people is a pretty good expression of who you are. When I first moved out it took me a while to figure out what I liked and what felt like “me” versus impulse buying what was on sale, or what I liked in other people’s homes. I remember being dead set on a royal blue velvet sofa for my first apartment, but I never liked velvet or colour. Who did I think I was all of a sudden? Now I get why I’m constantly drawn to leather, neutrals, raw metal and the odd punch of black — this is my wardrobe!
So, while I’m still working on updating my own home in the background (progress post coming soon!), let’s sit back, and give this ultimate “cool girl” home the attention it deserves! And if you too fall in love with this tour, there’s a resource guide at the end to steal this style for yourself. (Spoiler alert – some items are actually super affordable).
